Stocking up on cloth diapers and other baby supplies

The missus and I are starting to talk about things we need to stockpile in the anticipation of little ones at some point, and the most obvious starter item IMO would be cloth diapers. Any suggestions on the best place to get the least-expensive cloth diapers? I'm thinking these could be good barter items as well at some point (after they are washed:biggrin:).

Check in your area for diaper services. We used a service when our kids were young, and that's where I bought the diapers from. The diapers were great quality, nice & thick and made to last. I still use them for cleaning years later.

Make sure you also get the diaper covers in various sizes too. Babies grow!

To answer your question, and I mean no offense, only practicality . . . there are workman rags at the hardware store that would make perfect diapers.

I went to search for them to see what they are called, and I found this for ya:

You just reminded me of something to stock up on . . . condoms. Someone is going to need/want them, if not me.

Garage sales are great for buying baby clothes- lots of clothes, often like new. You would want onesies, sleepers, and socks in a variety of sizes. Pick up a few baby toys and board books. An infant seat is a helpful piece of equipment. Don't forget a pile of cheap washcloths for diaper clean-up. Except for the infant seat, you can fit a lot of baby stuff in a couple of plastic tote boxes. Get a couple of the long slim baby spoons for feeding. Receiving blankets are also necessary.

I know if my kids were babies again and I was out of milk for them in a SHTF scenario, I'd barter everything I have to feed them. In reality, of all my preps, I'd probably give the infant formula away if a parent really needed it.

All in all, baby supplies are good to have period. You never know who will be at your door.
